Hand of Hogarth - Our Story
During the 2019 lockdown, interiors enthusiast Mignon Matthews, like so many others set about restyling her home. A huge fan of the macabre with an avid fascination for the human anatomy – she’d accumulated a number books and objects over time from taxidermy to skulls. She wanted to find more, gothic-inspired homeware items to sit alongside her collection and bring things together but many options were mass-produced, featured tired, crude motifs that lacked imagination and used unsustainable, man-made fabrics. Disillusioned with the lack of choice of quality products she spotted a gap in the market, the seed of an idea took root. If she could not find items that she would be happy to have in her own home, why not make them herself. The House of Hogarth started life in March 2020
Whether appearing in renaissance artworks, adorning iconic rock album covers or emblazoned on designer clothing, the human skeleton remains one of the most recognisable and enduring symbols of our visual culture. House of Hogarth celebrates the fragility, beauty and complex aesthetic appeal of this motif through a curated range of bold, ethically produced homewares that transform the ancient to the avant-garde and add a touch of gothic noir elegance to your home. As well as some good old-fashioned rock and roll.
All of our products are ethically and sustainable produced here in the United Kingdom using fair-trade, natural fibres
